Welding & metalworking

Welding and metalworking employers need to be precise about process, material and standards. This page sets out what is usually worth specifying. It does not suggest that welders or machinists are available.

About this field of work

Metal trades are among the most specific. "Welder" can mean very different skills depending on process, position, material and the standard a customer demands, so a precise description saves time on both sides.

Roles often found in this field

  • MIG/MAG, TIG and MMA welders
  • Pipe and structural welders
  • Fabricators and metal workers
  • CNC machinists
  • Fitters and assemblers
  • Welding assistants and trainees

These are typical occupations in the field. They are not a statement about what Skilled Workers Poland can supply or about the availability of people.

Questions worth settling

Process, material and position
State the welding process, the materials (steel, stainless, aluminium) and positions. These define the real skill level.
Which standard applies?
Customers and projects often specify a qualification standard, such as EN ISO 9606-1 for welder qualification. Name the one you need rather than a general "certified".
Testing on arrival
Some employers run their own trade test. If you do, say so, as it changes how candidates are described.
Drawings and procedures
Reading drawings and following written welding procedures may require a particular language or format.
Tools and protective equipment
Clarify who supplies tools and PPE, and whether these differ by role.

Licences, certificates and regulated points

Some tasks legally require certificates or registration, and the rules depend on the country where the work happens. Check these with the competent authority:

  • Welder qualification certificates to the standard your customer or project requires
  • Whether a certificate must be issued or witnessed by a particular body
  • Site safety and hot-work requirements

Common questions

Are welding certificates from one country accepted in another?

It depends on the standard, the customer and the certifying body. Specify what you require; practical testing may be an option.

Is this relevant if our welding is only occasional?

Possibly. If metalwork is a small part of a bigger business, describe it simply and talk to us about what you need.
